Happy Quarantine's Day Puzzle Adventure Official Rules and Terms and Conditions

These Official Rules and Terms and Conditions — as well as this website in general — are governed by our Privacy Policy, viewable here.

Official Rules

These Official Rules govern the “Happy Quarantine’s Day Puzzle Adventure,” (hereafter referred to as the “Contest”), an online contest sponsored by Puzzle Crawl, Limited (hereafter referred to as “Puzzle Crawl”).

1. Eligibility: Each participant in the Contest must register as an Official Contestant. Official Contestants may solicit assistance from other individuals in the Contest, but only Official Contestants are eligible to win Contest prizes (hereafter referred to as “Prizes”). Any individual who assists an Official Contestant in Contest activities shall be considered a member of the Official Contestant’s “Team.” Teams may include any number of collaborators or teammates, but must contain one and only one Official Contestant. Only an Official Contestant shall be eligible to win the Contest or any Prize associated with the Contest. Upon receiving a Prize, an Official Contestant is free to distribute all or part of it to members of Official Contestant’s Team, in whatever manner Official Contestant deems appropriate.

Eligibility as an Official Contestant in the Contest is restricted to persons who are legal residents of the 50 U.S. states or the District of Columbia, who are at least 18 years of age as of February 10, 2021, and who possess the ability to enter into a legally binding contract with Puzzle Crawl. Official Contestants must designate themselves as such upon registration, and such designation cannot be subsequently transferred to another individual. The Official Contestant is responsible for ensuring that all information provided by Official Contestant and Official Contestant’s Team is complete and accurate. The Official Contestant shall provide accurate contact information — including a valid email address, and (if required) a valid phone number where Official Contestant can receive text messages — as part of the registration process.

The Official Contestant agrees to ensure that no other member of Official Contestant’s team is an Official Contestant for another team, nor shall any person serve as an Official Contestant, teammate, and/or collaborator for more than one Team, either concurrently or nonconcurrently. No person shall in any way assist more than one Official Contestant or Team in completing the Contest. Official Contestants are prohibited from assisting other Official Contestants in any way, regardless of whether either Official Contestant has successfully completed the Contest. Any violation of the terms of this paragraph will result in disqualification without a refund.

The following are also prohibited from participating in any way in the Contest, including serving as Official Contestants or Team members:

i. Current or former employees, partners, or staff of Puzzle Crawl.

ii. Immediate family members (including parents, spouses, siblings, and children) of employees, partners, or staff of Puzzle Crawl, and any person who has concurrently resided in the same residence as an employee, partner, or staff member of Puzzle Crawl within the last 12 months.

iii. Any person with prior or outside knowledge of any of the contents of the Contest materials.

2. Registration: Official Contestants must register for the Contest by completely filling out and submitting the Registration Form on the EventBrite website (eventbrite.com), including providing a valid Team Name (if applicable), and paying the prevailing registration fee via PayPal before 5:00 PM on February 12, 2021. A registration is not considered to be complete unless all required registration information is provided, and unless paid in full at the time of registration. Registrations completed after 5:00 PM on February 12, 2021, will be automatically considered invalid. Payments submitted for invalid registrations will be refunded.

3. Format: The Contest will consist of multiple puzzle challenges, revealed to participants via emails and/or text messages sent to the Official Contestants. Puzzle materials may appear in any of the following formats: text or multimedia content in the body of emails or text messages sent to Official Contestants, attachments to emails sent to Official Contestants, material on the Puzzle Crawl website (puzzlecrawl.com), on Facebook or Instagram accounts belonging to Puzzle Crawl, or at other publicly-accessible locations on the Internet. Solving these puzzles will unlock clues, information, and/or additional puzzles,  that will eventually reveal a final puzzle that must be solved to complete the Contest. The solution to this final puzzle is hereafter referred to as the “Final Solution”.

No puzzle shall include viewing or manipulating metadata or source code on any website. No puzzle shall involve any illegal or fraudulent activity, including any activity generally referred to as “hacking.” Attempting to solve any puzzle by viewing metadata or source code, or by manipulating puzzle materials or any website in an illegal or unapproved manner is prohibited and will be cause for disqualification at the sole discretion of Puzzle Crawl. Utilizing illegal or unethical tools or behaviors, including fraud, deception, or any other devious or underhanded means is prohibited. Official Contestants, Teams, or participants that engage in such activity, in the sole opinion of Puzzle Crawl, shall be disqualified without a refund.

All Contest participants — including Official Contestants and their teammates — are prohibited from sharing any Contest materials (including the puzzles and their solutions, in whole or in part) with the general public. Sharing any part of the Contest materials in public forums, including on social media or online forums, in an attempt to solicit assistance with the Contest is likewise prohibited. Official Contestants, Teams, or participants that engage in such activity, in the sole opinion of Puzzle Crawl, shall be disqualified without a refund.

All Contest materials are provided “as-is,” with no written, express, or implied warranty.

4. Duration

The Contest shall begin at 5:00 PM Eastern Time on Friday, February 12, 2021, and shall end at 11:59 PM on Sunday, February 14, 2021. This period of time shall be considered the “Contest Period.” Preliminary Contest materials shall be made available to Official Contestants at approximately 6:30 PM Eastern Time on Thursday, February 11, 2021, but such materials — which may include information necessary to successfully complete the Contest — will not be sufficient, on their own, to allow successful completion of the Contest. Materials sufficient to successfully complete the Contest shall not be provided prior to 6:30 PM Eastern Time on Friday, February 12th, 2021.

Periodically during the Contest Period, Puzzle Crawl may, at its sole discretion, make hints, clues, or other additional information available to Official Contestants. Such information shall be sent simultaneously via email and/or text messages to all Official Contestants. If errors are discovered in any of the Contest materials, Puzzle Crawl shall notify all Official Contestants of such errors via email and/or text message, sent simultaneously to all Official Contestants. The presence of errors in Contest materials shall not be a valid reason for challenging or altering the outcome of the Contest, or for seeking a refund of the Registration Fee.

Puzzle Crawl shall take all standard precautions to ensure that Contest materials are sent or made available to all Official Contestants at the same time, in the same format. However, Puzzle Crawl cannot guarantee that Official Contestants or Teams will be able to access said materials at the same time. Internet connection speeds, refresh rates of web pages, policies or failures by third-party providers, or any other issue (technological or otherwise, anticipated or unforeseen) may cause Contest materials to be available to various teams at uneven intervals. Once Contest materials have been sent or posted electronically by Puzzle Crawl, it is the responsibility of the Official Contestants to ensure they have the tools and ability to access Contest materials in a timely manner. Inability to access Contest materials shall not be considered a valid reason for challenging or altering the outcome of the Contest, or for seeking a refund of the Registration Fee.

5. Winning The first Official Contestant to provide the correct Final Solution to Puzzle Crawl by submitting it at the correct location on the Puzzle Crawl website (hereafter referred to as the “Submission Location”) during the Contest Period shall be considered the “Contest Winner.” Discovering the correct Submission Location may be a part of the Contest.

The second Official Contestant to provide the correct Final Solution to Puzzle Crawl by submitting it at the Submission Location during the Contest Period shall be considered the “Second Place Finisher.”

The third Official Contestant to provide the correct Final Solution to Puzzle Crawl by submitting it at the Submission Location during the Contest Period shall be considered the “Third Place Finisher.”

The fourth Official Contestant to provide the correct Final Solution to Puzzle Crawl by submitting it at the Submission Location during the Contest Period shall be considered the “Fourth Place Finisher.”

The fifth Official Contestant to provide the correct Final Solution to Puzzle Crawl by submitting it at the Submission Location during the Contest Period shall be considered the “Fifth Place Finisher.”

The sixth Official Contestant to provide the correct Final Solution to Puzzle Crawl by submitting it at the Submission Location during the Contest Period shall be considered the “Sixth Place Finisher.”

If any Official Contestant submits the correct Final Solution more than once at the Submission Location, only the first submission of said Final Solution shall be considered valid. Anyone who submits an incorrect Final Solution, or who submits the correct Final Solution in an incorrect location (i.e. a location other than the Submission Location, whether on the Puzzle Crawl website or elsewhere) shall not be considered a Contest Winner, Second Place Finisher, Third Place Finisher, Fourth Place Finisher, Fifth Place Finisher, or Sixth Place Finisher (hereafter collectively referred to as the “Prize Recipients”) by virtue of said submission.

Submitting an incorrect Final Solution at the correct Submission Location, a correct Final Solution at an incorrect Submission Location, or an incorrect Final Solution at an incorrect Submission Location shall not disqualify an Official Contestant from the Contest. However, entering numerous or random Final Solutions in an attempt to “brute-force,” “spam,” or otherwise overload the Submission Location or circumvent the rules and format of the Contest is strictly prohibited and will result in the disqualification of any Official Contestant who in the sole opinion of Puzzle Crawl has committed, is associated with, or has benefitted from, such tactics. Official Contestants agree to share their methods and solutions with Puzzle Crawl or its representatives to enable Puzzle Crawl to make a determination as to whether said Official Contestant has engaged in such tactics.

The Final Solution and the Submission Location shall be selected exclusively by Puzzle Crawl, prior to the start of the Contest Period. Once selected, the Final Solution shall not change, and shall remain the same during the duration of the Contest Period. Should the Submission Location, or the means of submitting the Final Solution at the Submission Location, become unavailable during the Contest Period — due, for example, to server failure or other third-party technical issues — Puzzle Crawl shall provide an alternate means of submitting the Final Solution (hereafter referred to as “Alternate Means”) and shall inform all Official Contestants of said Alternate Means via an email and/or text message simultaneously sent to all Official Contestants. Once an Alternate Means has been provided by Puzzle Crawl, correct Final Solutions received via the Alternate Means as well as correct Final Solutions submitted at the original Submission Location shall be considered, for the purposes of the Contest, to be correct Final Solutions submitted at the Submission Location.

Final Solution submissions and Submission Locations shall be considered correct or incorrect at Puzzle Crawl’s sole discretion. Final Solution submissions must be correct in their entirety to be considered “correct” for the purposes of the Contest; partial submissions, submissions that are partially correct and partially incorrect, misspelled submissions, and submissions that are entered in an incorrect format (e.g. a base-10 numeral entered in binary, or an English word entered in a foreign language), are among submissions that shall be considered incorrect and invalid Final Submissions.

Puzzle Crawl or its representative shall inform Prize Recipients of their status by email within 7 days of the determination of their status by Puzzle Crawl. Puzzle Crawl is not responsible if a Prize Recipient fails to receive the notice about the Prize for any reason, including due to any security settings or provision of incorrect contact information. If a Prize Recipient fails to respond within the required time period, the Prize may be forfeited and an alternate Prize Recipient may be selected based on the rules of the Contest.

5a. Disclaimer of Responsibility

Puzzle Crawl LLC is not responsible for problems with Contest entries (including Final Submissions), including but not limited to, entries which are lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, illegible, or cannot be completed due to electronic or technical difficulties, even if the problem is the result of the sole or partial negligence of Puzzle Crawl.

5b. Tiebreaker In the event that more than one Official Contestant submits the correct Final Solution at the Submission Location at approximately the same time, ties will be broken in favor of the Official Contestant whose correct Final Solution was first received by Puzzle Crawl, according to the Puzzle Crawl website’s activity logs and/or another system or method that Puzzle Crawl designates, at its sole discretion, as the best means of determining time of submission receipt.

In the unlikely event that more than one Official Contestant’s correct Final Solutions are received at exactly the same time, Puzzle Crawl shall coordinate with the Official Contestants in question to schedule a Tiebreaker, consisting of a single, predetermined timed puzzle (hereafter referred to as the “Tiebreaker Puzzle”) that is not part of the other Contest materials, within 72 hours of the end of the Contest Period. Every effort will be made to schedule the Tiebreaker Puzzle at a time and date that allows all relevant Official Contestants to participate concurrently; however, if this is not possible (due to scheduling conflicts or other difficulties), the Tiebreaker Puzzle may be administered to each relevant Official Contestant nonconcurrently. Ties shall be broken in favor of the Official Contestant who solves the Tiebreaker Puzzle in the shortest amount of time from receipt of Tiebreaker Puzzle to submission of the correct Tiebreaker Puzzle solution. As with other puzzles in this Contest, whether a solution to the Tiebreaker Puzzle is considered correct or incorrect shall be at the sole discretion of Puzzle Crawl.

6. Prizes: The prizes for the contest are as follows:

a) The Winner shall receive a cash prize of $1,000.

b) The Second Place Finisher shall receive a cash prize of $500.

c) The Third Place Finisher shall receive a cash prize of $250.

d) The Fourth Place Finisher shall receive a cash prize of $125.

e) The Fifth Place Finisher shall receive a cash prize of $75.

f) The Sixth Place Finisher shall receive a cash prize of $50.

Each Official Contestant is only eligible to claim a maximum of one (1) of the aforementioned prizes. The total value of the prizes offered in the Contest is $2,000. No individual shall receive a prize valued at more than $1,000 as a result of their participation in the Contest.

In the unlikely event that fewer than six Official Contestants successfully provide the correct Final Solution to Puzzle Crawl by submitting it at the Submission Location during the Contest Period, any outstanding Prizes shall remain the property of Puzzle Crawl.

All Prizes shall be sent to their respective Prize Recipients as payments sent via PayPal or as paper checks sent via U.S. mail. All Prizes shall be sent no later than 60 days after the end of the Contest Period.

By participating in the Contest, Official Contestants agree that if they are Prize Recipients, they shall provide all information necessary and/or legally required for the dissemination of Prizes to Puzzle Crawl. This information includes (but is not limited to) a valid U.S. mailing address, PayPal account number, valid government-issued photo identification depicting proof of age, and social security or tax ID number (via an IRS W-9 form, if required). Puzzle Crawl reserves the right to deny awarding the Prize to a Prize Recipient if said Prize Recipient fails to provide satisfactory identification or necessary information.

All Prizes are non-transferable. Prize-related expenses including all federal, state, and local taxes represent the sole financial responsibility of the Prize Recipient. Prizes are provided “as-is,” and given with no written, express, or implied warranty. Any Prize not claimed within 30 days of the end of the Contest Period will be forfeited by the Prize Recipient and remain the property of Puzzle Crawl. Acceptance of any Prize gives Puzzle Crawl permission to use the Prize Recipient’s first name and last initial, as well as city of residence and Team name, for advertising purposes without further compensation, unless it is prohibited by law.

To the extent permitted and/or required by law, a complete list of Prize Recipients will be made available on the Puzzle Crawl website no later than 60 days after the end of the Contest Period.

6a. Eligibility of Prize Recipients: In the event that a correct Final Submission is made at the Submission Location by an Official Contestant who is later disqualified, or deemed at the sole discretion of Puzzle Crawl to be invalid or ineligible to be a Prize Recipient, or the recipient of a particular Prize, any Prize that would otherwise have been awarded to said Official Contestant shall be forfeited and instead be awarded to the next Official Contestant to have submitted a correct Final Submission at the Submission Location. If no such Official Contestant exists, or such Official Contestant cannot be located, or fails to respond, Puzzle Crawl reserves the right to consider said Prize forfeited, and said Prize shall remain the property of Puzzle Crawl.

All Official Contestants acknowledge that any Prize received by a Prize Recipient is awarded to said Prize Recipient (who must also be an Official Contestant) and to said Prize Recipient alone. Nothing in these Terms shall obligate Puzzle Crawl to make any payment (monetary or otherwise) to any individual other than the Prize Recipients, whatsoever.

Acceptance of any Prize given in this Contest is in accordance with any and all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. If a Prize Recipient is disqualified for any reason, Puzzle Crawl is not obliged to provide an alternate prize or extend the Contest Period in any way, and all privileges as a Prize Recipient will be terminated immediately.

7. Modification and Disputes Puzzle Crawl reserves the right to alter or modify these Official Rules — including adding new rules — at any time, including during or after the Contest Period, in response to unforeseen circumstances that may arise.

For any dispute that arises that is covered by these Official Rules or Terms and Conditions, the decision made on that dispute by Puzzle Crawl is final and binding.

Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions shall — along with the Official Rules — govern the “Happy Quarantine’s Day Puzzle Adventure” Contest. These Terms and Conditions share terminology with and inherit definitions of said terminology from the Official Rules.

By participating in any way in the “Happy Quarantine’s Day Puzzle Adventure” Contest (whether actively or passively, as an Official Contestant or otherwise), you agree to abide by the Official Rules and also unconditionally accept and agree to the following terms:

Eligibility: If you are an Official Contestant, you agree and covenant that you are a legal resident of the 50 U.S. states or the District of Columbia, who shall be at least 18 years of age as of February 10, 2021, and who possesses the ability to enter into a legally binding contract with Puzzle Crawl.

Rights Granted by Contest Participants: By participating in any way in this Contest, you understand and agree that Puzzle Crawl and/or anyone acting on behalf of Puzzle Crawl has the right, where permitted by law, to use any content and personal information provided by any Contest participant for any promotional purposes without limitation and without any further compensation, notice, review, or consent.

Copyright: You agree and acknowledge that all puzzles, story materials, website contents, and all other content associated with the Contest — including the format and method of administering the Contest — are the property of Puzzle Crawl and may not be shared or reproduced in any way, in any medium, without explicit written permission of Puzzle Crawl, regardless of whether or not attribution is given.

Cancellation by Puzzle Crawl: You agree and understand that Puzzle Crawl reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest for any reason prior to 5:00 PM Eastern Time on February 12th, 2021, with Registration Fees returned to all Official Contestants. Puzzle Crawl reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest should disaster, virus, bug, non-authorized human intervention, fraud, or any other cause (including force majeure) affect the administration, security, fairness, or proper conduct of the Contest. If such case occurs, Puzzle Crawl may, at its sole discretion, select the Prize Recipients from among the correct Final Submissions received prior to said cancellation, termination, modification, or suspension. Any attempt by a participant to deliberately damage the Prize Recipient selection process and the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil laws.

Cancellation by Official Contestant: You agree and understand that Puzzle Crawl may, at its sole discretion, offer refunds to Official Contestants who provide written notice of their withdrawal from the Contest to Puzzle Crawl prior to 5:00 PM Eastern Time on February 11, 2021.

Because some Contest materials will be provided on the evening of February 11, 2021, you agree and understand that refunds will not be offered for any reason to Official Contestants who withdraw or attempt to withdraw from the Contest after 5:00 PM Eastern Time on February 11, 2021.

Limitation of Liability: You agree to release and hold harmless Puzzle Crawl, Limited, and its subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, partners, representatives, agents, successors, assigns, employees, officers, and directors from any liability, illness, injury, death, loss, litigation, claim, or damage that may occur, directly or indirectly, whether caused by negligence or not, from:

(i) your participation in the Contest and/or your acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of any prize or any portion thereof;

(ii) technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to the malfunction of any computer, cable, network, hardware, software, or other mechanical equipment;

(iii) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any transmissions, telephone, or Internet service;

(iv) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Contest;

(v) electronic or human error in the administration of the Contest or the processing of entries.

Assignment: Puzzle Crawl may assign any of its rights under these Terms and Conditions or Official Rules, in whole or in part, and Puzzle Crawl may also delegate any of its obligations under these Terms and Conditions or Official Rules, in whole or in part. You understand that you may not assign, delegate, transfer, or sub-license your rights or commitments under the Terms and Conditions or Official Rules, in whole or in part, to any third party.

Governing Law: THIS CONTEST IS GOVERNED BY THE LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND THE STATE OF OHIO, WITHOUT RESPECT TO CONFLICT OF LAW DOCTRINES.

Disputes and Arbitration: As a condition of participating in this Contest, you agree that any and all disputes that cannot be resolved between the parties, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, exclusively before a court located in the State of Ohio having jurisdiction.

Severability: Should any provision of these Terms and Conditions, or the Official Rules, be held invalid or unenforceable for any reason or to any extent, such invalidity or enforceability shall not in any manner affect or render invalid or unenforceable the remaining provisions of the Terms and Conditions or Official Rules, and the application of said provision shall be enforced to the extent permitted by law. Any failure by Puzzle Crawl or any third party to enforce the Terms and Conditions, Official Rules, or any provision thereof shall not waive Puzzle Crawl’s or the applicable third party’s right to do so. As used in these Terms and Conditions and Official Rules, the words “include” and “including,” and variations thereof, will be deemed to be followed by the words “without
limitation.”

Entire Agreement: You agree and understand that, other than as stated in this section or as explicitly agreed upon in writing by Puzzle Crawl, these Terms and Conditions, together with the Official Rules, constitute all the terms and conditions agreed upon between Contest participants and Puzzle Crawl, and supersede any prior agreements in relation to the subject matter herein, whether written or oral. Certain aspects of the Contest may be governed by additional terms. To the extent that there is any irreconcilable conflict between any additional terms and these terms and conditions, the additional terms shall prevail.
